Learning experiences in science education should vary and should include opportunities for group and individual work, discussion among students as well as between teacher and students, and hands-on/ minds-on activities that allow students to construct and evaluate explanations for the phenomena under investigation. Consequently, the aim of developing scientific literacy requires careful attention to all of these facets of curriculum. Students’ disposition towards science education is also shaped by these factors. The development of scientific literacy and science education in students is a function of the kinds of tasks they engage in, the discourse in which they participate, and the settings in which these activities occur. Learning occurs through actively constructing one’s own meaning and assimilating new information to develop a new understanding. Instructional settings and strategies should create an environment that reflects a constructive, active view of the learning process.
